Ok, I’ll be honest. I have a love-hate relationship with Netflix. When Netflix first became a streaming service, I was really excited about having so many options available to me, but I didn’t have kids then. When my kids became old enough to start choosing their own shows, I quickly learned how many low-budget and just outright stupid kid-shows there were for them to choose from.
Through the years as I’ve let my children choose shows to watch, I have struggled sometimes hating their choices more often than not. However, from time to time they have come across a few gems that have drawn my interest. So much so, in fact, I’ve found myself sitting with my kids through several episodes before I have to drag myself away to make sure that my family is fed and clothed. But when I get those rare ‘me’ moments, I have returned to a few of these shows, without my children, just to continue with the stories. So without further ado, I give you my 12 binge-worthy kid shows from Netflix, (in no particular order):
- Troll Hunters
- My Little Pony
- My Little Pony: Equestria Girls
- Tales of Canterlot High
- Dragons: Race to the Edge
- The New Legends of Monkey
- Lost in Space
- A Series of Unfortunate Events
- H2O: Just Add Water
- Mako Mermaids
- Just Add Magic
- The Dangerous Book for Boys
- Lost in Oz
I will be the first one to admit that most of these shows sound really childish. They are, but their stories are actually pretty engaging. My inner child absolutely loves some of these fantasy shows that I would have just eaten up as a child. You may also feel that a great deal of these titles are aimed towards girls and you would be right. But my 7 and 4-year-old boys have enjoyed watching these shows right along with me and my daughter, sometimes without me or my daughter even being there.
So if you find that you are wanting to watch a good TV show with your children, then give one of these series a try, you might be surprised at how much you get drawn in. Darn you Netflix!!!
